CREATING SCHOOL-BASED, NON-TRADITIONAL PATHWAYS INTO THE AVIATION INDUSTRY
RAISING HORIZONS
About The Program
The Raising Horizons program, spearheaded by Gunggandji Aerospace in collaboration with key partners, aims to empower Indigenous youth, particularly girls, to pursue careers in the aviation industry. By aligning with key action areas outlined in the Women in Aviation Industry Strategic Action Plan, the program seeks to address historically poor retention and academic success rates among First Nations students.
The program's objectives include increasing awareness and interest in aviation careers, providing practical experiences and industry engagement opportunities, establishing sustainable pathways for Indigenous youth, and fostering collaboration between industry partners, educational institutions, and Indigenous communities.
Targeting Indigenous youth, educators, industry professionals, community members, and government officials, the program will be designed to create meaningful experiences and opportunities that drive positive change. Delivered in Townsville, North Queensland, the program will cater to students from 29 remote communities across North and Far North Queensland, including the Torres Strait Islands.
The program is currently underway with program launch being scheduled for January 2025.
