How we got started
Gunggandji Aerospace was born from the inspiration of Daniel Joinbee, a proud Gunggandji man, RAAF veteran, and former DFAT officer. While indirectly consulting in aerospace, Daniel recognised a powerful opportunity. An Indigenous-owned company could revolutionise Australian industry by creating new pathways into aviation, space, and emerging technology.

Daniel Joinbee
Founder & CEO
Daniel embodies Gunggandji Aerospace's innovative spirit, bringing a wealth of aerospace and defence expertise to the table. From public service to international projects, and as a dedicated champion for the Indigenous community, his diverse background fuels a deep understanding of industry, culture and a passion for progress.
He has tackled fast-paced challenges and delivered dynamic solutions. Daniel has been recognised with the Australia Day Medallion and 2023 Indigenous Space Leader of the Year award.
Shaped by his Air Force service and entrepreneurial spirit, Daniel champions First Nations Australians while leading Gunggandji Aerospace to new heights. He's a true visionary shaping the future of aerospace.
Michael Mihalic
Director of Aviation Projects
A seasoned aviation professional with over 15 years of air traffic control experience (civil and military), Michael brings a wealth of knowledge to Gunggandji Aerospace. His expertise is bolstered by a strong academic foundation in aviation management, human factors, and safety. As Director of Aviation Projects, Michael has been instrumental since our inception, guiding our projects with skill and experience.
Jacob Gillmeister-Denyer
Mechatronic Engineer
Since joining in 2023, Jacob, a proud Kamilaroi man, brings a powerful blend of mechatronics and software engineering expertise to Gunggandji Aerospace. His contributions to various Defence communications projects have been instrumental, and his passion for innovation promises even greater achievements.
